Summer series at Riverbench

Local wineries nearby Flying Flags RV Resort host events year-round, offering our guests plenty of options for wine tours, tastings and special events. The Riverbench Vineyard & Winery in Santa Maria will host a few summer series in addition to their usual events.

The first concert for the Music in the Vineyard series will take place this Saturday, June 23, featuring live music from Nataly Lola. The Flavors food truck will be out from noon to 4 p.m. and wine will of course be available from Riverbench. Bring your family and friends, a blanket and cash for the food truck and you’ll be on your way to a musical and flavorful day. The second concert of the series will be Saturday, July 7 from 1 to 4 p.m with Sean Wiggins.

The Riverbench Food & Wine Pairing Series is already underway and the second event will take place Saturday, June 30. This event will pair seafood from Central City Market with four 2010 Chardonnays from the winery. Summer Theater in Solvang

Our guests and local residents know that Buellton, Solvang and the surrounding areas are never short on culture, music, wine and plenty of entertainment. Guests at Flying Flags RV Resort can now take advantage of the PCPA Theaterfest summer schedule. This local theater puts on Broadway shows, new plays and offers a wide variety of acting and technical classes.

The summer season includes “Little Women”, running June 14 through July 1 in Solvang. “The Rivals” runs through July, followed by “Legally Blonde The Musical”, which won Best New Musical at the 2011 Laurence Olivier Awards. “InterPlay: The Stage Between” will feature two different plays – “God of Carnage” on July 10 and “Equivocation” on July 17. Both will be read instead of acted out.

“Daddy Long Legs”, directed by Tony award winner John Caird is based off a book also written by Caird, follows a young orphan given a college scholarship by an anonymous patron. This modern day Annie story is a great play for the whole family, running August 23 through September 9 to finish out the season.

Music lovers welcome

Many of our guests at Flying Flags RV are wine lovers, nature buffs and adventure seekers who stay at the park to enjoy our comfortable amenities as well as local activities and attractions. But the region is very welcoming to music fans too. We posted about the nearby Jazz and Olives festival in Los Olivos, and there are many more music festivals and live performances to be found in the area.

The 50th Annual Old Santa Ynez Tortilla festival on June 9 doesn’t showcase music as the main event — the spotlight belongs to the homemade regional food and the big parade. But this festival will include live music, kids’ games, arts and crafts booths and much more for a day of family fun from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Starting Thursday June 14, the New Frontiers Music on the Green series will give families a way to enjoy free live music from their own blankets and lawn chairs. This natural marketplace located in nearby Solvang sells organic produce and grocery and opens up the front lawn to the public through August 23 for this series. BBQ and other drinks and refreshments will be available for purchase, and the music starts at 5:30 p.m.

And Solvang’s usual Third Wednesday will turn into a musical event with a ‘Midsommer Musik’ theme on June 20. This monthly event is an open house for visitors to shop, taste wines, and buy local food at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Solvang. Many shops offer discounts and promotions during the events. In addition to these regular events, there will be free live concerts throughout downtown. You’ll hear jazz, rock, zydeco, blues and more from noon to midnight.
